COVID-19 Water Service Update: Moratorium on Customer Shutoffs for Nonpayment

Vallejo-operated drinking water service continues normally. The City’s water treatment plants are designed to remove and inactivate pathogens including viruses and bacteria. Additionally, we maintain a consistent level of disinfectant in the distribution pipes to ensure the water stays safe as it travels to your home. During these times of concern, your Vallejo drinking water is one less thing to worry about.

On March 16, 2020, the City of Vallejo announced that due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, it has temporarily suspended shutting off customer’s water service for non-payment, effective immediately. This suspension applies to both residential and commercial customers.

The City of Vallejo takes the health and safety of our community very seriously. As we continue our efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19, it is important that everyone in Vallejo have access to clean water. Water bills will still need to be paid on time to avoid late fees, even though water service disconnections will be temporarily suspended.

To further support customers who may be impacted by the pandemic, the City of Vallejo will allow customers alternative payment plans who indicate either an impact or hardship as a result of COVID-19.

Customers who need to pay bills and are sick, or experiencing symptoms, are being asked to utilize other payment options such as online or by phone at (707) 648-5400.

"Vallejo Water Company" Phone Scam Advisory

The City of Vallejo recently received reports of a potential scam involving their water billing service.  Scammers have been posing as "Vallejo Water Company" employees, demanding immediate payment from customers, or their water service would be disconnected or shut off.  These calls are fraudulent and not from the City of Vallejo.  City of Vallejo customers with delinquent accounts will always receive advance disconnection notification from the City, typically by mail.  The City of Vallejo never sends a single notification one hour or less before disconnect.

New Water Rates Effective October 24, 2019

On September 10, 2019 the Vallejo City Council hosted a public hearing to consider implementing new proposed water rate increases.  Immediately following the public hearing, the Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the Vallejo Municipal Code authorizing increased water rates effective 10/24/2019. A second reading of the ordinance occurred on 9/24/2019 without comment and as a result the new rates will take effect on 10/24/2019. Click on the links below for detailed information on the water rate proposal process. If you have additional questions, please contact the Water Department at (707) 648-4307.

The Water Department is also reaching out to all local community groups and clubs in an effort to answer questions about the Vallejo drinking water system and the need for new water rates.  To schedule a date for Mike Malone to come meet with your group, call (707) 648-5299 or send an email directly to [email protected].

Service Line Warranties of America Partnership

The City partnered with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) Insurance Services in early 2019 to offer Vallejo homeowners warranty programs designed to assist with costly plumbing repairs.  The program is completely optional and homeowners will not be signed up or charged automatically.  There is no cost to the City of Vallejo and no public funds are used to promote or administer the program. Click HERE for additional information.

2020 Urban Water Management Plan

In the 2020 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP), the City assesses water supplies against expected water demands for a 25-year planning horizon and outlines actions to deal with future uncertainties which includes a diversified and resilient portfolio. The 2020 Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP) provides a framework to help address potential water shortages or state mandated reduction. These plans are an important part of the City’s long-term plans for development and to ensure water service reliability to meet multiple needs, including during multi-year drought periods between now and 2045.

Please click here for the UWMP 2020.  The 2020 WSCP  is Chapter 6 of the 2020 UWMP.

The plans will be presented for adoption and implementation at the October 12th City Council Meeting.
