General Information
Formally incorporated in 1868, Vallejo's history dates back to 1835. Vallejo is Solano County's most diverse city as well as one of the nation's. Vallejo is located at the northeastern edge of the San Francisco Bay Region. It is within easy commute distance of major employment centers such as San Francisco, Oakland-Berkeley, as well as Walnut Creek/Concord and the Tri-Vallejo area, and within acceptable commute range of the State Capitol of Sacramento. Being within close proximity to the San Francisco and Sacramento metropolitan areas and having accessible transportation, Vallejo is seeing a growing population and a growing economy.
Transportation Linkage
Vallejo is well-connected to the region via State Highways 29 and 37, as well as Interstate Highways 80 and 780. The San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) provides a high-speed catamaran service directly between San Francisco and Vallejo for approximately 2,000 commuters/day. Solano County Transit (SolTrans) provides bus connection to nearby Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations and across-town services.
Educational Institutions
Vallejo is home to three (3) higher education campuses - Solano Community College, California State University - Maritime Academy and Touro University - which provide highly-skilled and educated workers. Within a 40-mile drive, are Sonoma State University; San Francisco State University; the University of California, San Francisco; the University of California, Davis; and the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, California State University - Sacramento is within a 75-minute drive and California State University - East Bay within 55-minutes.
